The Living Arrangements

We decided early on to make the move from Dallas to Washington before the new house was built.  It was just too much to manage all of the construction issues and decisions from afar.

The question then turned to where exactly we would live while the house was being built.  We learned real quick that the apartment or house rental option would probably add somewhere in the neighborhood of $3500/month to our expenses.  Finding a property with a fenced yard (for the dogs) would be even more expensive.

We toyed with the idea of putting some sort of RV or trailer on our property for us to live in, but the hurdle to overcome with that idea was the lack of any useful internet options.  Our house site is so far from the main road that we have never gotten a commitment from any of the local internet providers to run the necessary cables to support their service.

About a year before we ultimately made the move, I had signed up for the waiting list for the new Starlink satellite service.  The estimate at that time was a couple of years before it would be available to us, but that estimate wound up being off, in our favor, by several months.  Problem hopefully solved.

So we decided to buy an Airstream to park on our property and that would be our home until the house was finished.  Our thought was that we buy a large one (28') and ultimately trade it in for a smaller one once we move into the house, using that one for camping trips.

In other words, we're officially trailer trash.

The day-to-day arrangement we landed on is that Simmons works in the Airstream and I work in the barn.  The dogs are pretty content just hanging out in there with her all day.
